What is Schema Markup (JSON-LD)?

Structured data is the language of search engines. By adding JSON-LD code to your site, you explicitly tell Google exactly what your content is about, unlocking visually enhanced search results.

Why JSON-LD?

JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is Google’s officially recommended format for implementing structured data. Unlike older formats (like Microdata or RDFa) which required you to wrap HTML elements, JSON-LD is a clean script tag that sits independently in the background of your page.

  • Does not alter visual page design.
  • Extremely fast to load and parse.
  • Preferred by Google and AI Search Engines.

The Power of Rich Snippets

Schema markup doesn't directly increase your rankings, but it changes how you rank. Valid JSON-LD makes your pages eligible for Rich Snippets.

For example, Product Schema adds prices, stock status, and star ratings directly in the SERPs. FAQ Schema adds a clickable accordion of questions below your link. These visual enhancements have been proven to dramatically increase Click-Through Rates (CTR) and out-compete higher-ranking generic links.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Schema Markup guarantee Rich Snippets?

No, it does not guarantee them. Schema makes your site eligible for rich snippets, but Google ultimately decides whether to display them based on your site's authority and the user's specific search intent.

Where should I paste this code?

The JSON-LD code should ideally be placed inside the <head> section of the specific HTML page it refers to. However, Google can also read it perfectly fine if it is placed in the <body> tag.

What if I have multiple schemas on one page?

That is totally fine! A single page can (and often should) have multiple schemas. For example, a product page should have Product Schema, but it might also have BreadcrumbList schema and FAQ schema. You just include multiple JSON-LD script blocks.
